Dr. James Neuenschwander, M.D.
|
Dr. Neu is a Michigan native who has always been called to be a
physician. After completing an undergraduate, honors degree in
molecular biology at the University of Michigan in three years, he
attended the University of Michigan Medical School where he earned
his M.D. degree. Much to his disillusionment, he discovered in
medical school that medicine was not about healing people but was
about controlling symptoms. He was accepted into the residency
program in general surgery at the University of Michigan Hospitals.
In his third year, he had an epiphany. He was exposed, first hand,
to alternative healing methods; and this made him aware that there
was an entire world of healing that he did not learn of in medical
school. As a result of this experience, he was trained in herbal
and homeopathic medicine through self study and internship with
master practitioners and ultimately left his surgical residency. He
began BEMC in 1988 with two other partners who have subsequently
gone their own ways. Dr. Neu also practiced and became board
certified in emergency medicine as well as being trained as an
acupuncturist. His philosophy is that we are designed to be
well—illness results when something is preventing that wellness.
Discover and treat that something, and the body heals itself. Dr.
Neu brings this philosophy along with a wealth of knowledge,
experience, empathy, and a true caring for people to each patient
encounter. |

Laura Goldman, APRN, BC
Nurse Practitioner
|
Laura graduated with her undergraduate degree
in nursing from Wayne State University in 1982. Since that time,
she has worked in a variety of emergency settings. In addition to
working in community and tertiary hospital emergency departments,
Laura also spent several years flying with the Survival Flight
helicopter program at the University of Michigan. Four years ago,
Laura made the tough decision to leave clinical nursing and return
to school. This past May, she graduated from U. of M. with a
Masters in Nursing, then subsequently passed her certification exam
for Family Nurse Practitioner. “I love having my own practice. In
this role, I am able to establish close, long-term relationships
with my patients.”
Laura joined the Bio Energy Medical Center
practice this summer. She specializes in family practice and same
day urgent appointments, but also assists Dr. Neu with many
alternative medicine patients. “I especially enjoy women’s health
issues”, says Laura. “Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy
helps so many women go through menopause more comfortably. I can
offer patients the choice of alternative or traditional therapies
for their health concerns.”
Obesity is a major concern of many patients,
and Bio Energy Medical Center now offers a new weight loss program.
Laura works closely with many patients who are losing weight quickly
and safely. “It’s about much more than body weight,” she says. “A
patients physical, mental and spiritual condition play equal roles
in overall health. We pay attention to the whole individual.” |
